A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Emma Love and photographed by Leia Morrison for an article in TOAST Magazine. We spent a wonderful day capturing the beginnings of a new series of paintings in my garden studio and on Penbryn, a local National Trust beach, where I love to draw.
This new series of paintings started on large canvases outdoors, using unconventional tools to create chaotic layers, will eventually evolve into disciplined, repetitive mark-making in my studio.
By the time the work is finished, there will be around 50 to 60 layers of paint, muted in tone, inviting viewers into a serene space for contemplation.
My travels, particularly to Iceland, have profoundly influenced my work, favouring monochromatic palettes that capture the stark, grey light of the landscape.
For more insights into my process and inspiration, read the full article on TOAST Magazine.
The article features a great selection of photographs from Leia Morrison and lots of creative chat with Emma Love.
